There is no question that Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt van Rijn are amongst the greatest Dutch artist of all time. They and their artwork might seem world’s apart, over 180 years separated their lives after all. But on closer inspection, you’ll see that the artworks of the Dutch Baroque master and the world-renowned Post-impressionist painter are more similar that you might have think. Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam is an immersive son-et-lumiere show that lets you explore, through light and sound, how Vincent van Gogh became fascinated by Rembrandt when he lived in Amsterdam, and how his artwork was inspired on the paintings, etchings and views of the great master. The Noorderkerk is a place they both visited in Amsterdam, as both attended Sunday service there. Now, the church helps to tell their story, as the ancient inner walls become a continuously changing 360° canvas and Van Gogh’s voice is heard in the church through his letters to his brother Theo.
